College Group

First United Methodist Church College Ministry seeks to build relationships with students and journey with them as they continue to discover their identity in Christ whether they are studying locally or are away at school. The college ministry offers several ways to grow your faith throughout the year while providing an opportunity for fellowship with other students. Planned events will include a weekly Sunday morning class, Wednesday evening dinner and Bible study, Christmas party, winter retreat, summer mission project, summer Bible study, leadership opportunities, and of course, events that involve food!

CRAVE is a ministry for local college students at Walters State Community College and Carson Newman College. On Wednesday, the group eats FREE dinner together at 5:15pm in the gym. Then the group meets in the Crossroad Building at 6pm for fellowship, authentic worship, and engaging Bible study. Focus will be on learning how to live lives of integrity and faith in a world full of compromises.

The New Horizons Sunday School Class is open to all college age young adults. The group discusses relevant issues for young adults seeking to grow deeper in their relationship with God. The class meets on Sunday mornings at 9:30 am upstairs in the Crossroads Building.

The college group also gathers in different homes throughout the summer on Wednesday nights at 7:00 pm for a Bible study. This is a great time of fellowship, Bible study, and fun.

SWIFT (Searching and Witnessing in Fellowship Together) is a new Adult Sunday School Class that formed in February, 2007. This group seeks to grow spiritually in relationship with one another. The age range is around 25 - 35, with singles and couples. The class meets at 9:30 am on Sunday morning in room 105 downstairs in the main building. The group studies a variety of topics, trying always to allow the subjects to follow the church calendar ( i.e. lent, advent, etc.). This is a lively group with many ideas for socials: dinner at a restaurant, meeting at a Smokies game, grilling hot dogs around a camp fire, or making homemade pizzas at someone's house. SWIFT also plans and participates in several local service projects. The class is facilitated by Tom and Kelle Strate. They may be contacted at tstrate@musfiber.com or (423) 587-2108.

Childcare is provided during this time.
